There is an insufficient amount of representation of Queer love media. Whether it's in TV shows, movies, advertisements, magazines, social media, etc; it is rare to see accurate representation of the Queer community. The repercussions of insubstantial Queer representation results in harmful generalizations, assumptions, and stereotypes of the Queer community as a whole and as individuals. Harmful narratives are created when Heterosexuality is assumed as the "default" and deemed as "normal." In turn, it generates implicit biases for people when they view Queer relationships as "other," therefor ostracizing their love and devaluing their joy. Queer love should be appreciated and valued as it's own category without comparison or fetishization.
This is a photography/media project I created for my two of my classes in Fall Semester 2023; Chicana, Latina, Gender and Popular Culture & Media and Social Change. I created this project with the purpose of increasing the representation of Queer people and centering their love and joy, with the intentions of destigmatizing and reshaping the way society views and values Queerness.
